IstanbulOld, winding streets and colourful, loud bazaars set against the backdrop of historic mosques and gorgeous sea views - you couldn't ask for much more from a city with as much history and culture as Istanbul.
I visited Istanbul in May 2019. I found this time of year to be a happy middle: warm enough to be a real 'summer' holiday, while still being out of peak tourist season. It was also Ramadan, which made for less busy streets during the day for all of the city centre wanderings. Even tourist attractions such as mosques and palaces were not too busy. Food, drink, shopping & transport are very, very affordable here for someone on a British wage. I'm a pretty budget-conscious person (especially when on holiday, strangely enough), and a few days into my trip to Istanbul I simply stopped asking how much a drink or snack cost; the answer was usually less than £1. Dinners out with starters and drinks were often less than £10 per person. Istanbul is a seriously fantastic holiday destination - for all the information you'll need to organise your holiday check out the links on the right. |
